Some stuffed mushroom appetizer recipes can be a little, well, stuffy. They don’t have to be that way! Let’s spice up your next party way with this flavorful recipe for Spicy FunGuy Mushroom Poppers, a modern twist on stuffed mushrooms. These tasty treats will have your party guests begging for more.
DIRECTIONS:
- Put the cream cheese package out on the counter to soften.
- Cook the loose Italian sausage in a skillet over medium heat until cooked through. Place in a bowl to cool.
- Brush each mushroom with a damp paper towel to remove any debris. Holding the mushroom firmly in your hand, pop out the stem carefully. You can use a small spoon to enlarge the hole, if necessary.
- Heat your oven to 350° F and grease a 9” x 13” casserole dish with a little olive oil.
- Once the sausage has cooled, combine sausage, cream cheese, jalapeños, and 1 cup of the Monterey Jack cheese.
- Fill each mushroom with a heaping amount of the sausage + cream cheese filling. Place the mushrooms side by side in the casserole dish
- Cook in the oven for 15 minutes. Remove the mushrooms from the oven and sprinkle the remaining Monterey Jack cheese over the top. Cook for an additional 5 minutes.
Let your Spicy FunGuy Mushroom Poppers cool for 5 minutes before serving. Transfer the poppers to a serving platter, sprinkle the finished mushrooms with minced chives and let the party begin!
Tip: The spice level can be adjusted by reducing the amount of jalapenos to the recipe. If heat is not your thing, substitute jalapeños with green chiles for a milder party treat.
You know FunGuy Mushrooms LOVE a party!
